Northern Towns Of The Costa Blanca, Spain
Stretching some 200 kilometers along the eastern coast, The Costa Blanca, Spain, attracts millions of tourists each year to its quaint seaside villages, the fascinating medieval towns and its wonderful beaches that feature 300 days of sunshine. Originally used in a promotional campaign by the British European Airways (BEA) to advertise a new service from London to Valencia in 1957, the Spanish term “Costa Blanca”, literally “White Coast” in English has come to refer to what is arguably the most famous stretch of coastline on the Iberian Peninsula. It starts up in the north with the towns of Denia and Javea, then winds its way southwards through the towns of Calpe, Altea and Benidorm. At the center sits Alicante, the capital city of the region. At the southern tip lie Guardamar and Torrevieja.
The northern cluster of towns and cities – the Costa Blanca North – are in a conservation zone. Consequently there hasn't been much development in these towns as the height and density of buildings is strictly regulated. It is also in this area of the Costa Blanca where you will find many real estate opportunities.
was once the center of the country's raisin growing industry. Today it is an important coastal hub for the fishing industry, and it offers ferry services that connect to Ibiza, Mallorca and other destinations along the Eastern coast. An old castle built in the 11th century dominates the town, while toward the south sits majestic Montgo Mountain.
consists of three distinct sections. The old fortified village some three kilometers from the shore once protected the inhabitants from marauding pirates. Many of the traditionally built houses still stand here, their balconies looking over the distinct white-washed streets. The port area is another section of Javea, as is the crescent shaped Arenal beach. In the last few years many luxury villas have been built along the surrounding hills.
is known for its Peno de Ifach, a massive rock structure that seems to jut right out of the sea. The city manages to combine its old world charm with a modern face. You'll find the narrow winding streets and old Spanish architecture a stark contrast to the modern apartment buildings.
is another city along the Costa Blanca that seems to be deciding whether to preserve its rich cultural past or embrace the future. The national road that runs right through the town and splits it into two distinct sections seems to symbolize this dilemma. The center of town still gives you that old Spanish look and feel, typified by the Nuestra Senora de Consuelo church with its distinct, impressive blue roof. But around the hills of Altea a construction boom offers a more modern look to the cityscape.
is Spain's largest resort and playground, and during the summer months, at the height of the tourist season, it is often described as being one big party. Surrounding mountains shield the town from the frigid north winds and as a result the weather here is characteristically mild for most of the year. Thousands of restaurants and dozens of bars set the stage for the active night life. There are two beaches to enjoy: the Playa de Levante (Sunrise Beach) which gets crowded quickly, and the quieter Playa de Poniente (Sunset Beach). What also sets Benidorm apart from the other northern towns of the Costa Blanca is the presence of a number of theme parks and water parks.
Golf is fast becoming one of the region's emerging attractions. Numerous world class golf courses dot the area, attracting more and more visitors. Naturally, water sports abound, and you can choose from among many options on the water as well as under it.
The allure of living warm sunny days by the beaches of Spain's Costa Blanca, in quaint, centuries old medieval village, but still never too far away from the trappings of modern life, protected from the harsh elements by lush mountains may be too much for many people to bear. And so they decide to take residence here. There are numerous opportunities to own all types of real estate properties -- apartments, houses and villas are available either for sale or rent..
